CPU Device manager info

edited December 2004 in Hardware
I have an AMD Athlon 3000+ 2.17Ghz and somehow with all my happy fiddling I have according to my device mngr and in my BIOS, A 2200+ 1.7Ghz

The only thing I have done is upgrade my power supply from a 250Watt to a 350Watt due to the fact that I put in another HHD and raided (0) both with a add raid card, increased my mem by 512 and added a larger cpu cooler+heatsink.

Pleeeze help as all this stuff is new to me

Moved to "Motherboards" since your computer can at least boot. :)

I did a little research which indicates that there are no jumpers on the board, eliminating that possible solution.

It appears that HP released a new BIOS for that board in September, which claims to add support for new AMD processors. What is the date of the BIOS are you running now?

I saw a reference on HP's site that the board will support a FSB up to 400 and CPU up to a 3400+. There may be hope for your situation!

One other thing you can try is to use the award flash utility from Asus's website for flashing the A7N8X series of motherboards and see if you can extract the bios on your present bios chip so that we can take a look at it and see if there is any way to unhide fsb and maybe memory adjustments on your present bios.

Before we go to that extreme though, try flashing the latest bios hp has for your board; like prof says, it might let your board correctly identify your 3000+. If the latest bios rev. from hp doesn't let your board run that 3000+ at it's correct speed, then we'll see what we can do. :)

Most probably not because that is an oem HP board that Asus produced especially for HP. It is based on the A7N8X series but has an HP only bios and I believe the board has 1 or 2 added features that production boards don't have or something like that. Knowing HP, it also probably has a non-removable bios chip too instead of having the bios chip in a socket. I've seen the (HP) do crap like that on some of their other boards.
