Ic7-G MB

edited December 2004 in Hardware
Hello all.
I have IC7-G MB from Abit, and after building this baby, I want to beef up the RAM. I have 4 RAM Slots. Slots #1 and #3 and grouped together (meaning they work together), so with the first two RAMs that I have, I put them in there (1 and 3). Now, I'm in need of one more 512MB stick, but I'm afraid it will not function alone if put in slot #2, since 2 and 4 work together. Does this mean I must buy two sticks? Thanks in advance.

Yes, for your IC7-G to work with the memory in dual channel mode, which is much better for performance, you have to install dimms in pairs. If you put 1 stick of ram in dimm slot 2 along with dimm slots 1 and 3 already being populated, it will drop everything back to single channel mode and you will see a noticable performance hit. If you want to add 512 MB more ram, I suggest that you buy 2-256 MB sticks and install them into dimm slots 2 and 4.

That's what I was thinking. Thank you for your confirmation. I appreciate it.

    No problem, Distovol. :)

I love my IC7-G myself. It's a damn stable board with lots of features and overclocks pretty darn well too. I just built an A64 machine but I'm still using the IC7-G. I'm still experimenting with the A64 right now and I can't argue about my IC7-G's speed or stability. ;)
