OK in short, Dell are a bunch of lieing coniving(sp?) sob's? DO they have some kind of agreement with Intel? I thought they were selling Athlon systems now(I don't buy or even look at prebuilt computers anymore), but I saw a commercial saying "Dell computers are made with Intel processors". So I guess they still don't use ANY of AMD's goodies?

I have never seen a dell amd system for sale. They were rumored to have opteron servers in the works and had some early units available to large customers for evaluation was what I had been told.

Nope as of right now dell exclusively sells Intel chips, and they get a nice discount from Intel by doing this I can only assume. It makes intel a lot of money because of the sheer volume and lets dell undercut a lot of the competition that sells both amd and intel while making the same profit.

Original Inq Story 12/10/04: Dell sells AMD Opterons through back door
If you make it through the, yawn, excuse me, persuasive yet scintillating speech, and satisfy the above criteria, Dell will sell you Opterons, but only through 'back channels' and quietly, very quietly.

AMDZone Newspost 12/10/04: Dull Selling Opterons Still
Back in March we verified that Dull had sold a customer Opteron power servers from Racksaver because they were not happy with Xeon. We certainly thought that this could not be a limited case, and again we see The Inquirer also knows of it happening again recently. I'd be very interested in how a company whose customers don't ask for AMD not only get it, but servers from another company no less. Why doesn't an analyst ask them this?
