Trouble with new system build - no beep

Hi all,

I'm building a new system and ran into a snag that I'm hoping you can help me with.

Asus p4s800
P4 3.0e 800mhz fsb
Kingmax 512MB DDR PC-3200
Radeon 9600

Anyway, I put it all together in a Rosewill case, turned it on and no post. The green light on the MB comes on and the fans spin, but no beeps, no video.

Things I have tried checked:

The cpu is seated properly with a thin coat of goo
memory is seated properly (tried in all 3 slots)
tested some other memory (samsung 2700 512mg)
video card seated properly
tested a different agp video card
Mobo is sitting on correct posts in case
tried running outside of case
reset mobo clock

Since it's not giving me any real signs of life, I'm thinking it's either the mobo or the cpu. Can anyone think of something that I'm missing or a way to tell where the trouble lies?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dave

the Power supply came with the rosewill case. It's 400w.

I'm not sure what other p/s stats are useful.

take the RAM out of the mobo and see if it will beep then, it should.

if not make sure the internal speake is pluged in correctly

if it still doesnt beep the motherboard might be dead

I did try that too. I took the memory out, no beep. took the video card out, no beep.

I tried turning the case speaker wires around in case they were miswired.

plugged headphones into the port to make sure it wasn't beeping there.

So your thinking motherboard? That was my thought too.

It could also be the power supply. Those Prescott procs draw a healthy amount of juice and it might be pulling too much for that generic type psu that came in your case. Do you have another psu that you can try booting with?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try switching P/S now (shutting down this system).

what psu (power supply unit) are you using? If it is the one that came with the budget rosewill case, then i would bet that is the culprit.

you should really get a qulaity psu such as an antec, enermax, or fortron source, etc...

here is a link to the psu that i am using right now...

I just tried it with an enermax 431W with the same results. :bawling:

I guess I'll return the board and try again.

try the system with the mobo outside of the case on a cardboard box or something.
