PC Start Up Trouble

edited December 2004 in Hardware
Hi, I'm a newbie at this and hoped someone could help. Last night we had a power outage and when I tried to restart my computer it wouldn't. It powers up and makes the disc drive noises and then beeps every few seconds. I tried to boot with the emergency start up disc and it didn't work either. This has happened in the past but it use to start up after shutting down a few times but not this time. Could someone lead me in the right direction please? It's a 4 yr old Atlas Micro built pc that I use as a spare. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Have you tried opening up the case and clearing the cmos by shorting out the clear cmos jumper. If not, look in your manual for the mobo and find where the jumper is located at, then unplug the computer from the wall and close the cmos jumper for a few minutes, then reset the jumper to it's original position and try to boot up.

BTW, welcome to Short Media! :)

Thanks for your help! I did what you said and it still didn't work. It did however get me motivated to fix the problem. I decided to take the front cover off where the beeping appeared to be coming from and it worked. I dusted off the buttons and pushed them a few times and she started right up. Maybe it was a your fix or a combination of the two. Atleast it's working again and I now have a forum to visit for future help.

Thanks again and Happy Holidays to all...
