edited August 2003 in Science & Tech
ok, so I just moved into my dorm room. I got my computer setup working and can connect to the internet. I opened kazaa and tried to connect and it sat and said connecting... down at the bottom and it never did actually connect and I don't know why

here are the particulars:
Windows XP
connecting to the internet through a proxy server
if you need something else ask and I'll tell you

any help will be greatly appreciated

    Hate to tell you this, but I know of alot off college's and universitys that are blocking Kazaa because of things like the RIAA and bandwith costs. Can anyone else there connect at all?

    Also try the latest version of Kazaa Lite. I am sure that it doesnt go out on the usual Kazaa port (I may be wrong on this so dont quote me)

    You did configure Kazaa's Proxy settings right?

    I checked and my college doesn't block file sharing. and I think I configured it right. just put in the proxy adress and port, or is there more to do?

    Get K++ instead of Kazaa.

    Check the proxy settings again. Try it without them (I know it may not seem like it works, but at my CISCO class, occasionally we could hit the internet without the proxy (It had a proxy setup and we used that to access the net). Make sure you have the address and port correct. I assume you have the right address and port because you can access the internet, but you might have made a typo without realizing.
    Get K++ instead of Kazaa.

    Kazaa Lite and K++ are one in the same as far as I've heard. http://www.k-lite.tk

    The latest version of Kazaa Lite and Kazaa K++, is the same program. Kazaa Lite K++ 2.41

    See the link.:) For a short time they were seperate programs, but at the moment they are not.

    I have the latest version of kazaa lite/k++ whatever it is called. I tried the same settings on 3 different computers here and none of them will connect. I also tried it without the proxy stuff and still no dice

    They may say they're not blocking file sharing, but it almost has to be that. Campus networks hate kazaa and other P2P networks. It's probably being blocked and there will be nothing you can do about it.

    Try another filesharing program that uses the fastrack network and see if that works.

    Either way it seems that you may be screwed.

    If thats the case then I agree with Prime, they are blocking Kazaa. Standard practice for most places.

    Well at least you got it working, that's the main thing. Glad you got it sorted.
