Im getting ready to build a new computer with some money i got for christmas. Right now Im going going to just get a motherboard and cpu since the ret of my system is pretty good. The only problem is what to get, so i need some input because im going to be ordering very soon. Not really sure for my budget but i know i just want a good combo.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ socket 939 (90 nanometer) $245.00
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ socket 939 (.13nm micron) OEM - $260
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ socket 939 (90 nanometer) - $349.00

ASUS A8V Deluxe socket 939– $129.50
Abit AV8 socket 939 – $119.00

But i had to look and found some decent prices for some 754 stuff also:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ - $166
and for a motherboard i was debating between
ASUS K8V K8T800
MSI K8N Neo-FSR

K guys i really need some input on what to do. I have a case, power supply, 1GB of pny pc3500, 9800 pro, 160gb sata hard drive that i can use so that why im just looking at mobo and cpu. Also i might do some overclocking but probably not too much

Nix the Socket 754 choices (that's what I have and the S939 envy is killing me! ;D )

    Get the K8N Neo2 Platinum and the A64 S939 3200 90nm CPU.

why the msi? is it a good overclocker too? also what would be a good heatsink? also is the 3400+ worth a look. Also is it worth it to look at the nforce4 boards? I have a 9800pro but i could go to a 6600GT. Thanks guys for the help

Socket 754 is headed towards budget systems thats all there is to it. There wont be much left after awhile for performance geeks like us. Socket 939 is where the enthusiast boards will be.

Also get a 90nm CPU as well. They run cooler, outperform 130nm CPUs at same speeds, and they overclock more. The price difference is well worth it.

Might want to look around to see where the best OCs are coming from but I bet you will get some of the highest OCs from the MSI, ASUS and Abit. Make sure to get the features you want as well.

The MSI Is the best S939 mobo availalble. Some have OC'd them as high as 300Mhz. A64 CPU clockspeeds are based on the HTT clockspeed. Memory runs either 1:1 (200), 6:5 (166), 6:4 (133) or 6:3 (100) ratio of the HTT speed.

The 3400+ S754 Newcastle is an OK chip. Mine does 2.6ghz on a Abit KV8-Pro HTT260mhz.

    Read These Articles:

    Tech Report Athlon 64 4000+ & FX-55 (with A64 3500+ Winchester 90nm)

Nforce4 Mobos are PCIe ONLY! Only the Asus A8N SLI and Chaintech NF4 mobos are currently available. The rest (MSI, Abit, Epox, DFI) dont arrive until Jan/Feb 2005

    The Best Athlon 64 heatsinks:
    1) Thermalright XP90 (or XP120 if your mobo can take it)
    2) Thermalright 948U
    3) Swiftech MCX-6400-V

Another thing to consider for the motherboard is how rma works. I've had to rma my Asus P4C E-Deluxe 3 times, and actually have had to for about 8 months now a fourth time, but asus shipped there workforce to China so I don't know how to get an rma. I've contacted them, but I get there confusing Chinese-english that says basically to contact them (the same people I was just contacting). I've given up on them.

I don't know, I would probably avoid asus from now on, but maybe that's just me, and I don't know if the other companies went over seas either.
