Trouble with the Windows ME Quick Restore CD

edited December 2004 in Science & Tech
I had decided to run the Windows Quick Restore CD to try to fix some of the problems that my computer had been having. I ran the CD's through, running Disc 1 first, then Disc 2, and then Disc 1 again. After running the discs, I tried to start the computer to make sure that the Quick Restore worked, but all I get when I turn on the computer is the Windows ME screen followed by a blue screen with the words "QUICK RESTORE" flashing on the screen. The computer won't let me go any further, and the only way I can get into Windows is to go into Safe Mode (by tapping F8 as the system powers on).

I made a Boot Disk and ran a System Scan with it, but no errors showed up.

So, can anyone tell me how to get Windows back up and running?

not to poke fun at anyone, but when i read the title "Troubles With Windows ME..." i thought to myself "ah, theres the problem: WINDOWS ME!"

i'm no expert, and im assuming this is not a self-made computer, otherwise i would just tell you to reinstall windows altogether

    sorry im not much help...:(

The QUICK RESTORE = OEM Windows ME restore CD-ROM and will most likely format, then reimage and setup to run the OOBE (Out of Box Experience) like it was when it was shipped to the retail outlet. If it's an option I'd put ANY other OS after Win98. Even Win98 SE2 would put you in beter shape than running ME.

    Nope, it's not self-made.

I don't have the Windows ME installation disc (I don't think my computer came with it), so I don't quite have that option right now.

I did, but that isn't working either. When I try to run Quick Restore (by going into Safe Mode, putting Disc 1 into my CD Drive, and then Restarting the computer), the same old red and blue Compaq QuickRestore screen appears, and then the screen goes black. After that, nothing happens, making it necessary to Ctrl Alt Del to get off that screen.

I have no idea what I would be looking for, so I haven't done that yet.

Again, I don't have any idea what to remove. Currently, when I run msconfig, the Startup selection has the "Normal setup - interactively load device drivers and software" option checked.
