Arctic Cooling VGA Cooler, Model "NV silencer 5"

Someone in the reviews mentioned they used "Arctic Silver V" for it...

Is that a lubricant of some kind, and does anyone know the diffuculty of the installation?

No it's thermal paste like you use on a heatsink fan. I've got an Arctic Coolong NV5 on my 6800nu & what i've done is use Arctic Silver 5 on the gpu chip & the supplied white silicon thermal paste on the ram chips. This way there's no chance of killing the card by shorting out one the ram chips by using AS5 on them.

The NV5 is very easy to install by the way.

Arctic silver isn't a lubricant; it's a paste that sits between the core of a video chip, or the core of a CPU and the heatsink. It fills in the microscopic divots and channels that impede a flawless heat transferrence from the device to the heatsink.

You can order it at almost any online retailer that's dedicated to selling computer parts. To apply it, you get a very small (Pin head-sized) bead on the core of the GPU, and then you spread it into a paper-thin paste with a credit card. Then you put the heatsink on.

It works well for your CPU too. Just make sure you remove all of the old thermal paste first, (or any other goop which may be under the heatsink).

If you haven't got any just use the stuff that comes with the Arctic Cooling NV5

i feel like i'm going to break something.

i've never done anything like this before.

i know how to install basically anything into a computer.

but as of right now, i feel like this will result in me needing a new video card...

so where exactly do i apply it?

anyone have any pics of it or anything? :(

On top of that in the BLACK PART ONLY. Pardon my caps, but that's very important.

And tiny dollops on the black ram chips too.

So i apply the paste on the black part there and the black ram chips and then put two and two together?

I did steal it; but my Olympus Camedia C-50 is capable of the same level of detail.

Alrighty it has arrived, and my only problem so far is removing the old fan.

i can't seem to find a philips head that small.

hopefully i'll be able to find one tomorrow. :D

well after about an hour or so of confusion and finding the right screwdrivers it's finally installed and working.

now my only question is, where will i notice the difference?

when you can run 3D games all day and your vid card doesn't go up in smoke and doesn't make your computer crash. it should also help with the ambient temps in your PC, although very slightly.
