I apologize.

After seeing a thread I've been posting to for the last few days closed today by an admin., I just want to apologize. I'm not sure what for though? The thread was up to 40 replies so it must have been a good one. I thought these boards were open for the purpose of discussion and debate and what makes for a good debate then people who disagree with one another. I may not have had my facts straight but what's wrong with throwing out a few theories or "things you heard" to see if there is any truth to them. Debating technological security impossibilities may someday help make them possible. If all words spoken here must be of fact, well, I'm in the wrong place, sorry. I'm here to explore and learn about security issues, not quote facts from a text book.

If I'm guilty of anything it may be that I took the topic a little off direction from the original post and I do apologize for that.

I was pretty clear in my final post as to why the topic got closed.

The topic was closed because it was going in circles. A question was posed. Answers were given by experienced and knowledgeable people. The supposition posted in the question was reiterated, with the only supporting evidence being "well I heard....." This pattern repeated over several posts.

That is not a "good debate." You had nothing to substantiate your point, other than to keep repeating "well I heard." Now, our members who chose to discuss this with you, notably Camman were very patient in repeating their knowledge on the topic. To repeatedly dismiss that knowledge and expereince by saying "well, that may be so, but I heard otherwise" is not taking part in a "good debate."

As a moderator of this site, I am given the responsibility to monitor threads in my area(s) and make decisions as to whether or not they are suitable for the area, the site and our membership. Their are certain rules and guidelines we follow. One of those is: "is the discussion relevant?" It was, at first. When it started going in circles, with facts being dismissed by "well, I heard such-and-such but have absolutely no evidence to reference to prove that" the discussion quickly becomes irrelevant. That is why it was closed. Both points were made, re-made, and re-made.

Not every post here needs to be "of fact", but ultimately, the facts are what is most important. As a Tech site, we deal with technological issues, and those are issues based in facts. Certainly there is room for some speculative discussion in terms of future directions of technology, etc. But in my judgement, the disucssion had moved well past that, was no longer relevant, and did not appear to moving back toward a relevant direction.

If you have any further concerns as to why the topic was closed, you are welcome to send me a private message to discuss it.
