Alt-F2 can mess up the flash if the BIOS needs to use a newer "flasher" application. These BIOSes try (but cant) updating this section of the bios, making the system unstable.
I tried this, and I had a world of problems until I re-flashed with a boot disk.
I have flashed now.
No problems.
I was very nervous, it was my first flash in two years.
And my first flash on my new motherboard.
I had heard many awful stories about flashing on the nForce boards.
I booted on a disk and then I ran the update from my harddrive.
I have an old 10GB IBM that is formatted in FAT32.
As I said all went fine.
I flashed to bios version 18, the most recent official release.
