HI,

Recently i have came across this win min error. THis happens when i go to shut down my computer, it says win min is still running. Also my homepage keeps getting directed to ms-find.com and in my favorites i have got these free spy camera pages. DOnt know how this has come about. I ve tried to scan using adware and norton but they dont pick it up.
Can someone please help.
P.s This also slows down my video card.

    Hi spyware shooter,

I have downloaded hijack this and ran the scan, although i am having problems saving the log file. When i go to do it, i get a prompt saying norton antivirus found a virus in the hijackthis log file and deletes the file.
So i cant paste the log file.

Disable Norton temporarily and save the log. Re-enable Norton.

Download about:Buster and unzip it to your Desktop. Doubleclick on AboutBuster.exe to run it and then click on Update > Check for Update. If there is an update available, click on 'Download Update and wait while it downloads. Once downloaded, click the 'Start' button and then click the 'OK' button. Let it scan (the scan can take some time to complete, so be patient.). Once the first scan has completed, it will ask you if you wish for about:Buster to scan once more. Click Yes and let it scan a second time..

When you have done this, boot into Safe Mode (restart your PC and tap F8 as it restarts) and make sure that you can view hidden files and folders.

Close all open windows and run Hijack This again. Check the below entries and click on Fix Checked.

    Hi
I did everything you wrote. When i searched for the xpsp2fw.exe and qowdiix in safe mode, it found the files. So i deleted them.
I am now running housecall, and it has come up with a Confirm File Replace box, it says the following:

    Source: C\Doc+set\one\Local Set\temp\ICD4.tmp\patchw32.dll
    Target: C:\Windows\patchw32.dll
THe target file exists and is newer than the source
    Overwrite the newer file?
(Options given are: Yes, No , No to all)
Im not sure what this means or whether i should be doing this?

Select no to all. Pest Patrol lists it as ok.

    Hi
I ran the housecall scan.It picked up these viruses

    BKDR_SDBOT.COM inC:\Documents+Settings\one\LocalSettings\temp\edu_7164282.exe
    TROJ DOWNLOADER in C:\Windows\system32\atmdbyen.dll
    TROJ DOWNLOADER in C:\Windows\system32\parorcert.dll
    BKDR_SDBOT.COM in C:\Windows\system32\wmserver.exe

It could not do a clean on these files but there is a option to delete. Are these files ok to delete? I am not 100% sure. I dont know whether these files are needed to run certain programs. For example the wmserver.exe is some generic host proces for win32 services. Will deleting this or the other files cause something to stop working?

Why don't you go to C:\Windows\system32\wmserver.exe and right click on that file and go to properties then version. Find out the manufacturer etc. If it says Microsoft Corporation it's safe. It does appear at first glance to be legitimate, but a lot of malware imitates legitimate file names now :(.
The other three can go for sure.

    Hi
no problem, i checked wmserver, its says
    File Version: 5.1.2600.0
Description: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services
Copyright: Microsoft Corporation, all rights reserved.

I have deleted the other 3 files. It seems like the redirection and win min error message is gone.
ALthough i am now getting a "You have requested info on dapsol.com" message when i get to my desktop. It asks for me to log on to the internet.
Heres the log + about buster log. Looks like xpsp2fw.exe still remains there

Run hijackthis and go toconfig\misc tools\delete a file on reboot and enter C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpsp2fw.exe into the line. Hit the open\ok button and when asked if you want to reboot, select no. Repeat this procedure for this file; C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuclient.exe and this time reboot when asked.

Do you have the Pro version of netpumper? The free version comes bundled with Cydoor and SaveNow adware. http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/library/netpumper/index.phtml

    Post another hijackthis log please.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [XPSP2 Firewall] C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpsp2fw.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows Update Client ] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuclient.exe

    Download the Pocket KillBox
Unzip the file to your desktop.

Run Pocket Killbox and paste the full file path of each of the below files in the box and click on Standard File Kill and End Explorer Shell While Killing File. Click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle after you enter each file (see the files below).

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpsp2fw.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuclient.exe

Reboot afterwards if the files are successfully deleted.

If all files are not deleted, do not reboot yet. Run Pocket Killbox again and paste the full file path in the box and click on Delete on Reboot. Next click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle. You will get a message saying "File with be deleted on next reboot, Process and Reboot now?" Click "Yes" to reboot only after the last file you enter.

    Post another log please.

Looks like the files must have been deleted already and what was left were just orphaned entries :).

You are now all clear :D.

    Thankyou very much justlooking.
Just one more thing, whats the best way of going about restricitng tasks that show up next to the time on the right hand bottom corner?
Would it be to run msconfig and untick what you dont want to run. I would like to not run quicktim and at Msm. (i find when i launch the internet, two versions of msm come up)

You can go into MSN and stop it from running at startup. Go to tools\options\general and uncheck the appropriate box.
Quicktime is the same with a slighly different menu to do it.
