Laptop crashes after a few seconds/minutes in multiplayer games
Hi. Well, there are no error messages but my computer
crashes whenever I play StarCraft and WarCraft multiplayer
(specifically on battle.net/LAN). I've formatted several times
to detect the source of the problem which I believe is
software related and found out that it MAY BE DirectX 9.0c.
Before I updated to this version via Windows Update, after
installing Windows XP Home Edition, I played a couple of games
without crashing at all. This is what convinced me that
DirectX MAY BE the source of the problem. I can not rollback
to version 9.0b, so is there another way to fix this problem
with 9.0c?
Now, I'm using DirectX 9.0b and my system still crashes when playing Warcraft III, Starcraft and Counter-Strike. There are information below regarding this long-time unsolved computer problem of mine from Blizzard tech support. I tried the suggested solution below but still no luck. Except now, I'm convinced it might be a hardware problem. I'm so frustrated though because I bought this laptop recently (maybe a week ago) and already it's full of problems. If this helps, I have HP Pavilion zv5330us notebook. *sigh* any help would be greatly appreaciated. Advanced Happy New Year!!!

Hello Sean,
If you are using a SoundMAX integrated sound card, Warcraft
III may incorrectly set the sound provider to a higher
quality level than your card can handle. This can cause a
Fatal Error message that is easily fixed by downloading our
Soundmax registry file from
(http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/war3/other/soundmax.reg). If
running that file does not solve your problem, then please
follow the steps below:
* Click the Start button in Windows.
* Select Run.
* In the text area type "DXDIAG" (without the quotes).
* After the DirectX Diagnostic Tool has finished loading
click on the Sound tab located at the top.
* Set the "Hardware Sound Acceleration Level" to Standard
Acceleration by moving the slider.
Click exit.
Run Warcraft III. The game should now recognize your sound
card correctly and run properly. Once the game has
launched successfully you can change the "Hardware Sound
Acceleration Level" back to the Full setting. Follow the
instructions above to access the DirectX Diagnostics Sound tab to
make this change. If you ever reinstall Warcraft III, you may
have to adjust this setting again to launch the game
correctly.
