seriously, i'm asking because i need them to be the right ones. yes, theoretically i could bring the laptop into a store and stand around trying dif. ones in it, but im sure you can understand the complications that that brings...i don't really feel like explaining what im doing, being accused of trying to steal screws, or accidentally getting ones that are the wrong length but "fit". i need the peace of mind that they are the ones designed for it. also, its easy as hell to get screws that are a little too big, and strip the hell out of the holes.
Sony's website doesn't have any downloadable breakdown on your vaio? I know that Dell has that for their laptops. Also, have you tried calling them and asking if they could sell you a set of screws for it.
I agree with you about the screws though; going to the hardware store would likely be a chancy way at best.
Assuming there are still some screws in the laptop (ie, you haven't taken them all out) why not take one to the hardware store with you and ask if they have any the same size?
Since Sony is of no use, why don't you atleast try taking up the hardware store suggestion before being rude to people and/or outrightly denying a perfectly legitimate response?
