    Hi Spywareshooter,

Thank you for your assistance at helping me to rid my computer of Search Assistant.

I am very curious about the work that is being done by this group to network computers for protein work. I am a research scientist working for the Australian sugar industry. My work involves engineering sugarcane to make new products including edible vaccines. Can you tell me more about how I can allow the researchers to use my computer to help develop proteins. There is 18 hours difference between where I am in Australia so there is plenty of time when my computer could be utilised for this work.

My concern would be that I already have spyware infecting my machine. Would this compromise the Intellectual property of these researchers. How do I strengthen my firewall to prevent this type of infection.

    Cheers,

    Steve

You do not appear to have Home Search Assistant on your computer.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Admilli Service] C:\PROGRAM FILES\ADMILLI SERVICE\ADMILLISERV.EXE
    O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocach...etup1.0.0.8.cab

Fix those entries then find and delete the folder "ADMILLI SERVICE", reboot and post a new log. You may not be able to delete the folder in Normal mode. If this is the case, boot into Safe Mode (Press F8 at the BIOS screen when booting) and delete it from there.

I would doubt that this spyware would compromise the group's research. If you want to increase your security, you should use Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com) instead of Internet Explorer, as it has patched many of IE's security holes which allow spyware to automatically download (also known as a drive-by download). You should also learn to use a HOSTS file (you can download a fairly good one from mvps.org), and download Spyware Shooter. Scan with Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search and Destroy at least once a week, and keep them updated. That should be all you need for protection.

    Hi SpywareShooter,

I had to run AdAware several times deleting small blocks as it identified them. When I tried letting the program run to completion and then deleting the sofware would hang and I would have to reboot. It identified a bunch of the Search Assistant files, all of which I deleted but I didn't expect it to completely rid my machine of Search Assistant.

When you say to fix the below entries, how do I go about doing that?

Thanks for the advice on keeping my machine clean. I'll follow those instuctions.

    Regards,

    Steve

    Dear SpywareShooter,

Again I thank you for your assistance.

I rebooted in Safe Mode and ran HiJackThis and fixed this entry in the log file. I then went looking for the folder to delete C:\PROGRAM FILES\ADMILLI SERVICE\, but I couldn't find it.

I then logged back on in Normal mode and reran HiJackThis. The Log file is below.

I've also downloaded and installed FireFox which I will use from now on instead of Interner Explorer.

I'll download Spyware Shooter as soon as I can access the www site.
