Network Benchmark Tool

Ive decided to make the jump to gigabit on my home network here :rarr: and would like to be able to bench out the performance differences. I have used Sandra in the past but I would like a tool thats a little more thorough or at least comparable so that I can look at at least a few sets of results. Does anyone have a particular app, prefferably free, that they would reccomend?

Sure. If you want real life performance and not B.S. from a benchmark copy a gb of data back and forth.

    Thanks tex... I think.
Usually I just use the performance graphs in administration tools during large test file transfers but I was wondering if there was something else I could use. I guess Ill just stick with that.

Tex is right. Stopwatch a GB of data, and then divide 1024 by the number of seconds for the MB/s of your LAN.

Even on my big dual servers I never match up usualy what the little quick tests say. Bogs down into the transfers. Eitehr form a disk subsystem or other probs.

My guess is that if you were getting something close to 100mbit you might get 2.5 to 3 times what you were getting then, with your new gigabit setup depending on how good your cards and switch are.
