Can't get past this level in HL2

I can't figure out how to progress when you get to some room filled with a bunch of explosive containers near the beginning of the game. It has a ladder to a room filled with water with a pipe entrance to another room filled with water. It has a ladder, but I can't figure out how to get to the other side which appears to be the exit. But there is a third room, which appears pretty useless, between these two rooms are some bars. I can get into that room, but it seems to have nothing in it usefull.

Hopefully that gives you the idea where I am... I have no idea what to do, and I can't stay in the game for more than 30 minutes before I start feeling like I am about to spill my guts on my monitor(I get very naucious in certain games).

in the one room with the water ( the second one ) there is a valve thats on a large pipe turn it it will flood the level to where it needs to be

Yeah, what Gnome said. Don't spend your time stacking barrels to get to the other side, not worth the effort once you get over there and find out you can't do anything. I must've missed that valve 3 or 4 times!!

I know I did! I got frustrated with it twice and walked away from the game. Then one the final time I came back, I inadvertantly spotted it. I wasn't looking. I was just kind of playing around, and *BAM!* I was staring straight at it. Heh.

Yeah, my cousin showed me that, he came home right as I posted this. Now Iam in the boat TRYING to get somewhere.... but I haven't been at it for too long. I came to a stop when some tower crashed blocking the way, dunno what to do now.

When you open the valve you'll have to swim like hell to get to the surface too or you'll run out of Oxygen. You have a long long way to go. I'm not even finished with the game yet and that room was quite a long time ago. You'll enjoy every minute of it too.

Been awhile since I played that part but I think you have to enter the building and find where you can open the gates.

You can get through the crashed tower.

If you are fast enough you can actually get under it before it blows up.

The tower landed on me and I took a little damage, but it poped me out the other side. I saw it falling and was like "Oh, ****! Oh, ****!, Oh, ****!" and just went as fast as I could. It was kind of funny. Hmmm... I need to hurry up and get back home so I can play.

I missed it 3 or 4 times too... and then decided it was barrel stacking time! I was disappointed when I got to the other side but made a daring jump to success without the valve.

WOW!! How did you make that jump?? I tried forever and got fairly close, but I couldn't get close enough.

Damn. Memories. I'm gonna play it through again :)

Water and Ravenholme levels were my absolute faves, especially Ravenholme, which just oozed atmosphere.

The whole spinning motor on the floor with a blade out of it was ace. Jamming them with a wardrobe was cool too.

I still haven't finished yet and relish every little minute I get to play. I'm currently leaving "nova spekt" or whatever it was called. Looked like a futuristic prison. I think I just entered a level called "entanglement". How much further to go from here?

i am completely ticked since i finished it . I havent found anything to replace it. Doom 3 was a major failure to replace HL2
