HELP! AMD64 3000 keeps restarting!

edited January 2005 in Hardware
This is for a buddy of mine:

Okay, first off I know there's a fair share of people out there that have the same problem as me. I looked through all the threads and no one really gives a solution, they just run some crazy program. Please, I'm looking for a solution. I get this DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION error all day long, and I already read the whole SP2 issues with AMD64 users. The question I have is, is there any real solution rather than uninstalling SP2 or getting XP 64. That doesn't make any sense to me, because what kind of solution is that. Why isn't microsoft actually addressing the error rather just telling us either we go unprotected or just crash like crazy.

Anyways, I don't want get too into that. Basically, the computer crashes randomly, especially when I'm playing games. Someone just line it up real simple for me, what do I do to FIX the problem other than uninstalling SP2. What happens if you disable the DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION thing, is that even possible? Please let me know. Here is my system setup.

AMD ATHLON 64 3000+ processor.
420W RAIDMAX POWER SUPPLY
250 gig ultra ata maxtor HD 7200 RPM.
NVIDIA FX5700 LE 256mb video card.
512 mb pc3200 ddr centon ram (yeah it's cheap but the problem is way too similar to the one described by microsoft knowledge base)

Please Help!

If you disable DEP/NX/EVP (Whatever marchitecture you choose to call it), you don't gather the benefits of protection against software buffer overflow exploits.. But it's not a big deal as smart folks like you and I haven't had a problem with those exploits because we don't pick up crappy viruses.

You should be able to disable AMD's DEP in the BIOS.

I kinda had a problem like that with my athlon 64 3200+ so I formatted my hd, and re-installed windows and never happened again. Try formatting if your willing to go that far.
