Grrrrr SP2

Well I installed SP2 last night and rebooted this morning and its already pissing me off.
How do I get rid of the damn Windows Security Alert thing in my system tray.
Windows Messenger is back, at least in the tools menu.
It took away my theme and I cant get it back. I dont remember exactly how I got in the first place. I have a .theme file and a .msstyles file that I clicked on but I dont that the different options in the appearance tab under the down down box 'windows and buttons'.
Its driving me nuts already and I have only had it for 5 mintutes.

I almost succommed to leaving Auto Updates on all the time just to get rid of the icon. I didnt know SP2 install another service. Thanks Chris.
well i installed it 3 times so far here at school in this past week.
I noticed that if I just update to sp2 then msn explorer is ok but if I do a fresh install of winxp + sp2 then msn wants me to pay for it.
So ...I won't be using msn explorer anymore from here! :bawling:
I install with firewall disabled and use 3rd party firewall
The alerts are easy to disable
Goto control pannel - Windows Security Centre
then select the "change the way security centre alerts me" in the left column and viola.
Other than that all the machines I have installed on have run better and the users, my mum (aussie spelling) especially, it has greatly reduced her spyware take up. (I usually have to clean her machine on a regular basis)
I select for auto updates the "download updates but let me choose when I want to instal them" that way I know what it's up to and can choose when I want it to act or discard those I don;t want.
Some versions of SP2 don't have as many annoyances, I know exactly what you're talking about and didn't have the same problems in the final version, only the beta versions. You can either peruse the control panel for the Windows Security options, or search google for a direct approach to turning it off.
You may want to put this string into your Run window, it removes Windows Messenger if it's installed, and then it's up to you to download MSN Messenger if you want to. Here's the uninstall string:
Try using a Theme Manager of some sort to get it back, TuneUp Winstyler might be able to handle it but don't hold me to it.
The system defaults on SP2 are more secure than previous versions, for example NetBIOS is turned off, the RPC vulnerability is fixed, etc. So if it takes a half an hour to an hour to fine tune it to your liking, you're still much better off!
