    Hi. First of all you need to update hijackthis to version 1.99. Run hijackthis & go to *Config\Misc Tools\Check for update on-line*. If the site is down, go here. Remove the old version by opening the program, going to config\misc tools, then uninstall & exit. You then have to delete the file manually. Unzip the new version into the hijackthis folder.

    Go to add/remove programs and uninstall the following, if found;
    Windows ControlAd
    Windows ServeAd
    DeskAd Service
    webHancer
    Web_Rebates

    Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

    Reboot into safe mode by tapping f8 whilst starting your PC and delete the following;

    C:\Program Files\Windows ControlAd<----folder

    C:\Program Files\DeskAd Service<----folder
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\pcs<----folder

    C:\Documents and Settings\Pablo\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winupdate90385812[1].exe<----file

    In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

    Reboot normally after doing the above, rescan with hijackthis, then post that log here please.

    I cannot find any information on these files:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\wmptelc.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\dcomrror.dll

    Please find them and right click on them. Choose Properties. Click the version tab and get the manufacturer and original filenames and versions please. Maybe that will give a clue.

    These two C:\WINDOWS\System32\wmptelc.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\dcomrror.dll
    I just want info on for now. If they come up bad, they will be deleted.

    To get into safe mode you need to tap f8 whilst booting your PC. You should be given an option to boot into safe mode. If not you will have to do it again and start tapping immediately you push the start button.
    To locate the files, open Windows explorer and go to your C drive then to the relative folder where I have listed the malware. ie: for Windows serveAd you will go to C drive then Program Files then locate the folder there.

    Half of your log managed to take a walk somehow?? :).
    Try uninstalling the printer hardware then unplug the printer from the computer. Uninstall the software you use for it, then reboot. Depending on the manufacturers instructions, you should run the printer software disk, then follow the instructions from there.

    Good luck :).

    hi - ive uninstalled the printer but when installing with the software and printer the new device is detected by the hardware wizard but when trying to install it fails and says error printer driver is unknown, also when i try to unzip the driver for win 98 to xp it says this file is not suitable for running ms dos and windows applications, any ideas , do you think its a fault on my pc thats rejecting the printer software and xp driver, thanks

    p.s ive tried to do a system restore again to a known ok date with no success any ideas why this is failing also
