Backdoor-BDD removal: HJT Log review needed. Appreciate the help!

Hi folks,
I've been plagued by the Backdoor-BDD virus. Have run numerous virus/adware/spyware scans and then downloaded Hijack This. Tried four times to download/scan with Hijack This v. 1.99--gave me an error message/forced the program to end each time. So I had to use a v. 1.98.2 Hope that's ok. Here is the Hijack This Log. I think I know what files need to be removed, but any help would be much appreciated.

You've got some nasty stuff in your log. This will take a few steps, but we can get you cleaned up.

Download(right click and select Save file as or Save link as): DelDomains.inf
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

To use: Close all open browsers
Right-click DelDomains.inf and select: Install

Then rescan with HijackThis and see if that entry returns.

Note: this will remove all entries in the Trusted Zone and Restricted Zone.

Download, run, and configure Adaware

Download Ad-aware SE from: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:

* Automatically save log-file
* Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
* Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :

* Scan Within Archives
* Scan Active Processes
* Scan Registry
* Deep Scan Registry
* Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
* Scan my Hosts file
* Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
* All of your hard drives

Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:

* Include additional process information
* Include additional file information
* Include environment information

Click the Tweak button and select:

* Under the Scanning Engine:
o Unload recognized processes & modules during scan
o Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
* Under the Cleaning Engine:
o Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click on Proceed to save the settings.

Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:

* Use Custom Scanning Options

Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

Reboot your computer.

Please post a new hijackthis log so we can start cleaning whatever is left.

Thanks so much. Followed all your instructions. The only snafu we ran into was that Adaware said it couldn't delete about 10 or so files, it asked if we wanted to delete them upon rebooting. We rebooted and it went right into adware after windows said it could not find one file--not sure if the other 9 or so got deleted.
Anyway, here's the new HijackThis file. Thanks for the help!

Your log looks clean to me. Are you having any problems? Try to scan now with Hijackthis 1.99.0 to see if it will work now. If it does, please post a new log with that version.

AdWare Spy is a scam, there is nothing good about any part of AOL. Usually Virus Scans like McAffee do not detect spyware. I'd reccomend using Ad-Aware, Spybot and Webroot SpySweeper.

System restore can be enabled once we are sure that this is gone.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
2. Click once on the Security tab
3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
  1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers
Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
