Try unplugging the power cord and removing the cmos battery. Then wait an hour or two. :)

What power supply do you have?

You might also try the ram in a different slot, and try a different Video Card if you have one. Even a PCI vid card might help for troubleshooting purposes. You might also take the MB clear out of the case. Closely examine both sides for burn marks or other signs of failure. Try the system again outside the case with just CPU, ram, and vid card. When you replace the MB make sure you don't have any stray standoffs in the wrong place causing a short. Make sure you reseat all your cables and replace any questionable cables.

The more possible causes we can eliminate as the source of the problem the quicker we'll get to the source.

That sounds like yet another PSU problem. I had the same problem with my new PC...started fun, installed windows, then the damn thing just lost power (http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24653). Turns out it was the power supply. So I went with an Antec and never looked back.

Sounds very much like the problem I was having with my other system. Take out that PSU and video card and put in another PSU and a video card that doesn't take a 12v lead.
