Its socket 754 will it work in most boards? From the pics it doesnt have the heatsink thing attached. Is teh voltage differant also? Run cooler etc?

Where is thrax when ya need him? (grin) I was thinking it might work well in the little micro atx (shuttle xpc sized) motherboard I just bought.

    It seems I read that a lot of boards had trouble running the mobile A64's, but I'm sure it must just be a bios related issue with the microcode for the mobiles. You might try reading some of the reviews at Newegg for the boards you are thinking of using and see if they are having issues running the mobile procs, Tex.

    I'm pretty sure that the mobile A64's are much like the mobile XP's in that they are cream of the crop and run a lower vcore than the desktop varieties, plus they should cool better due to no IHS too.

    Thrax's guide doesn't seem to say anything about socket 754 mobiles. As for me, I don't have a clue. :(

    They work fine on most boards Tex. As Mudd says, it's bios related. The DTR (Desktop replacement cpu's) have the heatspreader on, but the mobiles not. Which board are you thinking of? That m-ATX MSI? Any mobile except the 35W have 1mb cache which helps a lot if you are not intending to clock it a little. Newegg have a 3700 mobile which i have been looking at for a long time. Must be a hell of a clocker on S754.

    AMA = AMD AthlonT 64 Mobile DTR
    AMN = AMD AthlonT 64 Mobile 62W
    AMD = AMD AthlonT 64 Mobile 35W

    I don't see anything wrong with that board at all and we all know that MSI generally delivers for any price they sell at. And as Mac pointed out about the bios is correct. If you still have any doubts check w/ OPP but I doubt you would have any probs w/ that combo. :thumbsup:

    I am looking cheap. Its to serve mp3's and do a tivo thing. No apps. nothing running on it but home entertainment crap. Piece of cake really. The board was $50 and I need a cheap azz cpu basically is all. Robin will use it to VPN in to her work in Dallas when she visits her mom. A Ok duron could handle the load... But crap there is no reason now to do a duron/XPs with todays prices. Cheap and cool running is a big plus.

    This is our 5'th amd 64 box in the gigabit network at the house and ... Its a entertainment box and backup box for Rob at work is all.
