AMBER stands for "Assisted Model Building with Energy Refinement". Apparently it's been out for a while, though I have yet to see it.

Our teammate Trogan_1000 just brought it to my attention.

If you have any personal experience with this new core please clue the rest of us in. You can find a FAQ about AMBER here, with more info here.

I kind of had some issues with it a couple of months ago. Not the core, but the server it was trying to get the core from. My work system folded a bunch of gromacs with it.

    :rant::werr: :mad2: :rant:

I've been folding on this AMBER core for two days and it was my first one.

ARGH! I knew the WU was nearly completed but I needed to reboot the comp and when I went to check (after reboot) the AMBER had finsihed it's WU but not correctly...

I've started a new AMBER WU but this is what FAHlog said for the previuos WU:

    [23:49:26] Completed 820000 out of 2000000 steps (41)
    [23:55:37] Writing checkpoint files
    [23:58:16] Writing local files
    [23:58:16] Completed 840000 out of 2000000 steps (42)
    [00:02:41] Writing checkpoint files
    [00:07:08] Writing local files
    [00:07:08] Completed 860000 out of 2000000 steps (43)
    [00:16:07] Writing local files
    [00:16:07] Completed 880000 out of 2000000 steps (44)
    [00:17:42] Writing checkpoint files
    [00:25:44] Writing local files
    [00:25:44] Completed 900000 out of 2000000 steps (45)
    [00:25:44] Writing checkpoint files
    [00:26:36]
    [00:26:36] Folding@home Core Shutdown: INTERRUPTED
    [00:26:39] CoreStatus = 66 (102)
[00:26:39] + Shutdown requested by user. Exiting.
    Folding@Home Client Shutdown.

    :bawling:

EDIT: I guess thats a lost WU?

...I guess thats a lost WU?
You shouldn't have. Check the log again.

When you restart Windows it sometimes takes a couple minutes for the WU to start back up. The message you got merely says that it was shutting down the client at your request (when you rebooted). It should be fine. :)

I think its lost this time coz there's a new FAHlog.txt in place :(

What does the new log say about what step you're on?

    You are fine, dude. :)

When you shut down it was at 45% - which is right where it picked up after the reboot.

Phew! Thanks prof for your expert folding help :p

btw, is this a big WU? How much points is this worth? I still don't get how the calculator works...

    Thanks again :)

    5. What about SSE/3D-Now/Altivec support? Currently, SSE and SSE2 are not supported. AMBER is run in double precision so SSE would not help. SSE2 could help, but would not provide a significant speed increase. Our first goal was to get AMBER running stably and we will then try to further tweak optimizations with SSE2. However, we expect to gain only 10% speed increase.

My guess is that AMD's would fold with the amber core fastest.

Yeah, your old fahlog must have been 50k or better in size and the client started a new fahlog. The previous fahlog is now listed as FAHlog-Prev.txt and the next time the fahlog gets to 50k or better and the next stoppage of the client, it will rename the present FAHlog.txt file to FAHlog-Prev.txt and start another FAHlog.txt file.

You can also check http://vspx27.stanford.edu/psummary.html for the complete list of the current WU's and the points they're worth.

All I can say is that I just got a few P1800 WU's and crunch through them like premium gas in a 600HP engine with my AMD rigs! :D
