Dunno how I did this...

I have been running F@H in the background for some time now, but now I want to try the -advmethods tag and I have no idea how to change it becuase I don't even know how I installed it as a service. I don't think I used daemon tools, and I don't see any programs installed that I recognize as being what I used, I think I used some method that doesn't require a program to install it as a service.

Any ideas?

    Did you use srvany.exe?

    Are you running the 5.02 version that lets you set it up that way from the -config ?

    look @ your FAHLog.txt...what version are you running, and what are the "arguments" listed as. This should be near/at the beginning.

    If I may, let me jump on this bandwagon, too.

    Last week I switched all my local rigs over to the 5.02 Console version. I checked "-advmethods" in the box in the configuration section of EMIII. Will this be enough to take care of all the machines on my LAN monitored by EMIII, or do I have to install EMIII on every computer and check the box there? Or is there a different way I should be doing this?

    Four of my five local boxes are currently working on the 600-point jumbo WU's. The one that's not? My brand-spanking-new A64 3500+, which has gotten nothing but low-point Tinkers since I built it two weeks ago... :rolleyes:

    But Prof, that thing must fold that Tinkers is a few minutes flat. You are probably setting decent points for them. Just no Big Unit bonus.

    But as to your question, I haven't a clue. I don't run as a service, I don't run EM.

    It's 502 and I have this listed at an argument... -svcstart

    How do I add -advmethods or whatever the name is? Do I just add it to that log or what?

    Yeah, I shouldn't complain. It has a higher weekly point output than any of the lesser computers in my stable, despite the fact that I using it all day long and the others pretty much do nothing but Fold. :)

    rwb it's as easy as a simple registry edit really.
    ok ...just ao a registry search for -svcstart and once you find it modify the Image Path and add a space and -advmethods. restart the client and you're in! :fold:

    like ----> Image Path REG_EXPAND_SZ D:\f@h\fah502_console (your f@h path) -svcstart -advmethods

    I didn't restart the client when you told me add -advmethods in the registry. Do I need to? :)

    ya well you don't need to but -advmethods won't go into effect until you do! :thumbsup:

    Thanks
    that'll work but doing it that way is unlikely to get you an -advmethods wu immediately. You have a better chance if you do it earlier like right after a frame is finished with your current wu. That way when you restart -advmethods is already in place to request for your next wu dload. If you wait til the current wu is finished then by the time you actually initialize you've probably already dloaded your next non-advmethods wu! :thumbsup:

    Also ...one other factor to consider is this. If you have configured "Minimize networking - send and receive work units in batches" the you could already have up to 9 more non-advmethods wu's to complete before you get to an -advmethods wu.

    So bottom line is that if any of these factors are involved then you may not want to expect an -advmethods wu just yet. Your settings and current work load will determine those wu's.

    Took your advice and restarted F@H in Admin Tools > Services...

    are you configured for "Minimize networking - send and receive work units in batches"?

    I need to edit this ...I accidentally omitted the word immediately. It should read like this.

    [settings]
    username=csimon
    team=93
    asknet=no
    bigpackets=yes
    machineid=1
    local=433

    [http]
    active=no
    host=localhost
    port=8080
    usereg=no

    [core]
    checkpoint=30
    ignoredeadlines=yes

    cpuusage=100
    disableassembly=no

    [clienttype]
    type=2
    nonet=yes

    [power]
    battery=no

    2 means yes and 1 means no. Don't change it though because it doesn't prevent you from succeeding ...it only means that you have more wu's left in your work folder to complete if it is set to 2. If set to 2 and there are more than one wu's in the work folder then the client will fold everything there before dloading more (-advmethods).

    Look inside of your work folder and how many different "wudata" numbers do you see?

    is EMIII starting your client?
    If not then what controls how you're client starts?
    You'll only find -svcstart thru regedit if you configured 5.00+ to run as a service. :D

    Then that's the wu you're folding ...your next should be an -advmethods wu! :thumbsup:

    No. I used the service installer included with the 502 Console. I do have EMIII loading at startup, but the F@H service is independent of that.

    ok ...regedit search for fah502.console instead ...be sure to start from the beginning. :scratch:

    ;D I can't believe I actually told you to seach services.msc for that! ;D

    The closest I can find is in

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\FAH1\Parameters

    FAH1 is the folder where Folding is installed.

    cool that might work ...just try and append -advmethods after -service (in appParameters) and see if that works!

    I feel stoopid...

    When I went to modify it I found this one:

    Image Path REG_EXPAND_SZ D:\f@h\fah502_console (your f@h path) -svcstart

    so I did it there instead.

    I'm going to restart and see if it shows up in the log.

    Thanks for all the help. :)
