I keep getting annoying messages!

On my Windows 2000 Pro Abit BP6 system, I have Spyware Blaster 3.2, Spybot Search & Destroy 1.3, and AdAware 6 installed. And a free Sygate firewall. The Windows 2000 Pro is the base version, no service packs.
And I have Norton SystemWorks 2003, installed and updated.
I keep getting pop up ads that say I should download a patch for the computer, from places like www.updatepatch.info and other weird addresses like that. It speaks of critical updates, and my operating system is always on the list. It says Messenger Service in the frame of the pop up, top left, so I keep thinking it's an actual Windows service.
I came home from work yesterday and had to click off about 26 of these notices.
None of the spyware programs seem to detect it. How can I stop them?

Plus you need to get SP4 and all the updates. Ad-Aware has a newer version out. Get that as well.
Are you using IE or Firefox? If IE have you kept up with the updates??
This has nothing to do with any Instant Message program - they will all still work. The Messenger service was designed to allow network admins to send alerts to workstations.
Naturally, the scum of the earth use it for their evil purposes.
