Hi.

I am unsure as to what to do with my computers. Here is what they are atm.

Main Rig: General usage, Gaming, Lots of Audio + Video Editing.

Intel P4 2.4c Watercooled
Abit IC7-Max3
1gb Corsair 4400C25
Gigabyte Nvidia 5900XT
74gb Raptor (Boot)
1x 200gb WD Sata, 2x 300gb Seagate 7200.8 Sata, 200gb Seagate 7200.7 Sata, 2x 160gb Seagate Sata.
2x Pioneer 108's, 1x Pioneer 107
Creative Audigy 2 ZS
Coolermaster Stacker Case, Antec 550w Psu1 + Generic 400w PSU2.
Hpt 4port sata card + 2port Ide card.
sony g500 21" crt.

Game Rig: Portable LAN gaming Machine. (Not Really Used Yet)

AMD A64 2800+ 754
Soltek SL-K8N2E-GR
512mb corsair 3200C2
Radeon 9800pro 256mb
10gb Seagate xbox hdd (Boot)
2x Maxtor 120gb Sata
Liteon 8x dvd burner
generic case with Antec blue 350w psu

Folding/Server: Used as dedicated folder + Game server for lans

2x AMD 2400+ MP's
Tyan Tiger MPX
2x 512mb corsair ram
Geforce2 32mb
10gb scsi 10k hdd (boot)
2x 80gb Barracuda 4's
8x cd-rw, dds2 tape
generic sound, generic case with antec 400w psu
64bit gig lan, adaptec 2940u2w scsi

I have all comps on a gig lan, so after reading the post about network storage, i was considering running a computer as a dedicated storage/burning computer.
I am looking at the Nforce 4 as an upgrade, but i am not sure how much faster than my p4 they will be at Audio Video work. (encoding and editing)
I have got a KVM for my main station on the way so i can have the stroage and main machine hooked in together on the one Monitor etc.

I was thinking of also using the storage machine for encoding as that would make sense since it would have all the storage space. It would have to have room to add more Sata drives as well.
My main machine would then be more of a Gaming/general use machine with the storage machine taking over a lot of the other work.

What would be your recomendations.

Any help is great.

Thanks, Regards Michael.

High clocked Intel CPUs are hard to beet when comparing encoding. When the new A64s come out with SSE3 it should help out some.

I think I'll go along with Marc about the P4 for encoding; that's one thing they do really well with. You might consider just upgrading the P4 machine to a 3.4 Presshot since you're already watercooled with it and overclock it some. I bet you can get 4 GHz or maybe more with your Max3. The only upgrades I'd do to the mobo would be to add some heatsinks on the pwm mosfet's for additional cooling of them and make sure you have decent air movement in the case to keep mobo components cooled.

Ok, my one q' is hdd bandwidth.

My pci bus must be clogged with the 2 addin cards + the SI3114 on the same bus.

The Nforce 4 would have more bandwidth wouldn't it?
So there are new A64's coming out with sse3? That would help a lot.

Hmmm, might have to wait a bit.
