grr, windows xp home edition installation problem..

edited January 2005 in Science & Tech
when i try to install it, it gets to where it copys the setup files and it says it can't read *file name* off the cd.

I googled my problem and found out many people are having the same problem and there seems to be no solution.

I know there are many intelligent people on these boards that can come up with a solution to this annoying problem.

I have tryed:
Another cd rom, still doesn't work.
Another windows xp cd, the same problem occurs

What i'm planning on doing is telling it to skip the files and just install windows. Maybe if i run the setup off of windows, it'll solve the problem.

any help will be greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance!

damn xp, i hate you so much. It installed until it said it had 1 minute left, then it restarted my computer and it said it had to restart the setup. Only to have a error stating that it was missing installation files.

i guess running setup from windows is out of the question now.

i ran memtest and everything seemed to be fine with my ram.

try a differant cdrom. Not the disk. The reader itself. I have tons of them laying around and the same disk errors in some of them and not in others.
