Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

    http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

You have a very nasty VX2 infection. It's probably making everything really difficult on your computer right now. Unfortunately that automated removal tool for this infection will not work on 98. So we will have to kill it manually. The first step involves collecting some info from your system.

    Download the following file:

    http://castlecops.com/zx/Zupe/FindIt9xME.zip

and unzip the contents to a folder. When it has unzipped, open that folder and double click on Find.bat. It will run for a while, so be patient, and then produce a log (ignore any File not found messages on the screen, it should continue anyway).

Please copy and paste that log here.

From the moment you post your list, until you see a detailed fix written up, DO NOT reboot your system or log off. If you do, the files will have changed and the fix provided will not work.

i got fed up before you posted back this computer was being a royal pain so i did a quick restore now my question is since i did that would the virus be gone? and should i go ahead and run that file. :bawling: i hated having to reinstall everthing again but im beginning to wonder which was worse the reinstall or trying to fight the virus.

I would always look at reformatting as a last resort. If you just reinstall Windows you will probably still be infected. System restore may work for you, but chances are that the bad files are still on your system.

I recommend to go ahead and post a Findit log(following the directions in my previous post) and we can at least see if you still have the infection on your computer.
