K well Ive been debating it for a while now and I finally got in gear and did it and got an amd64 system. Asus a8n-sli, amd64 3200+ (90nm), Pny 6600GT. I just used my 160Gb sata hd and 1gb pc3500 from current machine. So did I do okay? also what are the normal temps for teh amd64's. is there a good bios I should get or just go with the standard asus one?

As long as the damn thing works (my saying), it works.

My socket 939 Athlon64 3500+ runs about 48C with the stock AMD heatsink and Folding running 24/7. My next move will probably be a better heatsink, though my system is rock-solid as far as stability goes. Then maybe a teeny-weeny overclock.

Barring any unlucky glitches, you are going to like your new computer. :)

I'd like to hear an answer to this from someone with more experience than I have. I guess the simple answer is "as fast as you can get away with", but what you could reasonably expect that to be I just don't know.

Timings don't matter. It's all about the FSB with the A64.

Sounds like you got yourself quite a system there.

ASUS usually runs very good BIOS and you can search the site for new ones if you need, just be careful when you flash them. The entire process isn't hard, just scary. Your Mobo is so new though you are almost gauranteed to have the latest BIOS available. You may want to check the drivers though.

When ever you manage to save up enough money to buy another 6600 I wouldn't mind hearing how that works for you.

GL with your system, you are giving me a little more insentive to save my 700 bucks for my new ATI card.

Not so much for A64 but for the NF4 SLI board you have good timings are 2.0-2-2-7, 1T if your memory can swing it (Like if you could swing those tight timings up to 225 or so). Always use 7 for TRAS. If your memory can't handle the 2-2-2 then start working up like 2.5-2-3-7, 1T. Granted A64's aren't as touchy as socket A Athlons for memory timings but it's not quite as laid back as Thrax would make you think. It still does affect performance to a fair degree. I hope this helps answer some questions.

It all depends on what memory you have in the rigs. Let me know and i'll try to find some nice settings to use.
