The "Minibug" component, which is the ad-serving component of WeatherBug, was classified as low-risk, and the Microsoft Spyware default is set to ignore it.

Have tried it when it was Giant and it had a few false positives. Still does, although there are experts at Castle Cops apparently lending their knowledge to the 'project.'

i'm testing it right now. i had cleaned my machine before in installed it. so i'm waiting to see if it finds any on the daily scan i scheduled. i am going to scan with xoftspy, hack-this, and pestpatrol to see if they find anything that it doesn't. so far so good.

I actually like the product. It actively monitors the system instead of just waiting for you to get spyware and then having to remove it.

I use it; it's not bad. I didn't care to have it loaded 24/7, but that is easily fixed.

The only word of warning I would give is that it kept nagging me to dump RealVNC until I told it to "always ignore" it. Keep an eye on what it spots as a baddie - it may be something you want.

Let's move this to the Security Forum, since there are no doubt many others who would like to weigh in on this topic. :)

well i see my predictions where about right on this. thats pretty bad when they had to have someone else make the core program then buy them out then they add there own stuff to it and it kills one of there own programs (IE) and the only fix for that is to reinstall :shakehead

Most major software companies got to where they are today by acquiring other software companies and getting the rights to their technology or products. This is not the first acquistion for MS, nor will it be the last. Let's just hope they make the thing work very well and help cut into the malware problem.

I too have used it with satisfaction. The only problem, it seems, is that my free license expires at the end of July. I wonder how much the program will cost once the free license is up? If it's reasonable I will buy it as I too have found things with it that others have missed.

How much? I think there will be two versions, full and pricey and free and chopped-down. Good to see they're working on the bugs though.

Just wanted to say that I have found it very useful. It found a bunch of things missed by adAware and Spybot.
I also like the continuous monitoring and the easy way to reset IE. All I need now is a way stop IE being continually reconfigured!

One Word: Run a spyware program with up to date defs, more than one (okay more than one word). I use IE and never have problems with it reconfiguring itself because I'm careful, FireFox isn't going to stop your spyware problems.
