I need to know what cpu/mobo you guys would reccomend for a mid range system. Im not spending over 1500 on this, so what do you think?

I stoped following cpu stuff after i got my last athlonXP. From what I understand though AMD is a better deal for mid range systems like it usually is, so what 64 would you guys recommend?

Socket 939 for sure. This will ensure an upgrade path for the foreseeable future. (Socket 754 is on the way out.)

As far as MB's, I've been singing the praises of my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum since I got it early this month. To be fair, there are other good 939 boards available, too. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to elaborate on the subject. :D

AMD 64-Bit processing gives you the best of both worlds. Blazing fast 32-Bit performance now; 64-Bit capability when it really hits its stride.

I'll also speak up for my EPoX EP-9NDA3+ socket 939 board; it's a pretty damn nice board and a better value (read less expensive :D ) than prof's MSI board. If you want to go with a pci-e board, then hold out for DFI's nf4 boards. They have a sli board coming out and also an Ultra (I believe it's called) that has dual pci-e x16 slots and you can easily mod the northbrige to the sli northbridge standards simply by connecting a bridge or 2. Anandtech has an article on doing this with it. The DFI nf4 boards are also supposed to have some fantastic overclocking options too.
