Is this a corrupted BIOS?
I've been having problems with a new system lately. DFI / Elite (yeah, elite piece of JUNK if anything) AZ30-TL motherboard, Duron 1100, 1 256 MB stick pf PC3200, and a small hard drive loaded with Windows 2000 SP4 and a lot of antivirus software.
The computer started out okay 3 days ago, but then had a problem with constantly restarting itself. It'd load up normally, and as soon as the desktop came on and it finished loading, it'd shut down and restart the process over and over.
I've tried a different power supply, I've tried putting the memory stick and processor in my main system and they worked fine, I've tried putting my main system's processor and memory in this new computer and it worked fine, but now on the 3rd day of trying to fix this POS, it's giving out completely.
Even when I put in my Knoppix 3.6 bootable CD it won't do anything with it.
Sometimes on startup it'll complete the memory test, sometimes it freezes part way through. Sometimes I can hit the Delete key and go to the BIOS screen, but the last time it worked, the BIOS items were out of order and clicking on one put gibberish on the screen. The next time I tried to Delete into the BIOS, I got a blue screen with a blinking white cursor and nothing else at all.
About the only thing this computer will do right is make the POST beep.
Can this be a BIOS problem? I don't have a floppy drive but can borrow one, and even if I had it, I've never flashed a BIOS before. The CMOS has been cleared numerous times, and the battery tests at 3 full volts.
I already called the person I got the motherboard from and told them they better set aside the purchase price for a possible refund. :banghead:
