Hey guys, a few simple questions.

edited February 2005 in Hardware
Well recently I've been noticing a slowdown with my pc.

Here are my current specs:

Motherboard: Intel D865PERL
Processor: Intel Pentium 4/ 3.0 GHz
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 80 GB 7200 RPM
Sound Card: SB Audigy
Video Card: eVGA 6800 w/ NVSilencer 5
Power Supply: Ultra X-Connect 500/w
Memory: Crucial 1 GB (512 x 2) DDR 400 PC 3200 RAM

I really would like to run Half-Life 2 with all settings maxed out as well as other games, and would also like to decrease startup times.

I've been looking into things such as WD Raptors, among others like an Audigy 2ZS, but am wondering what would be the best thing to upgrade first and why.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys,

Sincerely,

-djstubbs

    IMHO

Better gaming performance: Overclock your video card/cpu and/or more ram. Tweaking the OS might help too.

Faster startup time: Tweak the OS (less startup programs, etc) and/or faster HDD.

Alrighty, I believe I'm gonna go with a combination of wd raptors.

do you have any suggestions related to those?

The raptors are excellent drives but I don't think you'll notice any difference in game startup times. Tweak the bios and OS like BH said and do a little OC and you'll be ok.
