What's wrong with my internet?

Note that this is happening on all computers in my apartment.

In short my internet works, partially. When I try to goto a website, it won't show up, I sometimes have to try connecting to it multiple times before it comes up. This isn't happening to all sites though. For example, I haven't had ANY problems connecting to Short Media, but I have yet to be able to connect to google. Other websites work sometimes, and sometimes they don't forcing me to refresh constantly to get them to show up or navigate within them.

The thing is that this happens from time to time, as if Roadrunner is being a pain in the ass, I don't think it's my hardware either becuase it seems to be working just fine. Any ideas?

Ohh and I am having a hard time connecting to Everquest and that is just plain unnacceptable. :shakehead

When you can't pull up a website, try to ping a site. Yahoo is a good one because you should always get a reply. They could be having DNS issues at Time Warner.

If everything is bad then fine without you doing anything, it was most likely the ISP playing around with something.

    This happens too often....

These are just a few sites, I myself don't ever visit yahoo or msn, but I used a couple other sites I do go to, even when playing everquest2, which I haven't been able to log into. If I try again, it probably will let me in, and I won't have any problems, but it's never a guarantee. Sometimes a site works, sometimes they don't.

Right now S-M works fine, 90% of the time. But maybe tomorrow I'll have to refresh a couple times for me to get to it, or to view a post or to make a post, or anything. This happens to many sites I have noticed, that some days it's not the one giving me problems, but then another day it is. I'll sometimes access a site, read a bit, then move to another page to find that I cannot access that page until I refresh a couple times.

For games, like Guildwars over this past weekend I got a DNS error when trying to log in, only twice though, I know I had friends in the game at the time so it was up. The first time I just had to relog in twice, the second time it happened I had to login thrice. For EQ2, sometimes I have no issues, other times I have to try logging in again and again.

The pictures below should show you what I mean, the ping which shows me pinging a couple sites a few times, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. The second is what I see when I try to login to EQ2. The site won't work either. But again, it may work on a couple refreshes, or it may not.

This happens to toooooo many sites and too many places with all similar problems. It's not just me either, anyone on my network gets similar problems. Ohh one last bit, sometimes we'll go a day or two without a single HITCH... or at least not notice it.

Same as the problem with our roads.
Too many people with more bandwidth demand than IQ. (can you say using huge trucks to just drive to McDonalds?)
Desingers that never actually have to use the product.
    Don't let me go on.

Seriously, it sounds like your ISP is jerking you around.

Yeah they recently upgraded everyone on Roadrunner from 2Mbps to 5Mbps... but I have had this problem for quite a while. I'll test a few things out, MAKE absolutly sure it ain't my router(even though I am pretty damned sure), then call them up and get them to do something that won't have ME driving to some place to replace thir modem(and probably not fix anything) or pay for anything. Gotta make sure they allow networking also, bastards.

just take the router out of the equation... plug your comp in directly

(btw i like your choice of games to show your internet was broken :D)

btw, for EQ2 if it lets you login on the loader but then boots your out when it actually goes into the game and tells you 'invalid username or password' this is their problem, not yours. its on their support pages, and its some stupid issue with the login server...

Nope, don't get that problem... and I know about the router thing that's what I am about to try. ;)

This could be coincidence, but now I am plugged into my router and everything seems to work fine. Even went to a porn site and just started going crazy clicking a bunch of sites.... every single one poped up.

Anyone know of a really good firewall/router I can get? I'll upgrade my firmware to make sure it's not fixable or whatever, but some ideas right now would be nice.

Of course this could also be just a coincidence... it sometimes works like **** one moment then the very next works perfectly fine. This could easily be one of those moments.
