Please review HJT and Active Services log

Hi,

I'm a brand new member. Thanks so much for donating your time to help with these nasty Trojans. I've followed the steps in your Home Search Assistant Removal Guide and I can't find the bogus services. I had already cleaned things up using the latest versions of Ad-Aware, About Buster, HiJack This, Spybot Search, Spy Sweeper, and HSRemove (didn't work - About:Blank came back). I've been running these programs multiple times. I'm OK for about a day and then my browser gets switched back to "About:Blank" again. I've noticed in HiJack this, that the "02 - BHO" .dll changes each time as you had described might happen. I ran the programs above (except HSRemove) again this morning, however I'm sure tomorrow my browser will get jacked again. I'm sending the current log and the Active Services log that was generated using the "get_active_services" vb script. Thanks again. Look forward to hearing from you.

Tony

    Welcome Tony.

Your log looks pretty clean to me. Maybe you got rid of it this time. If not, copy and paste your hijackthis log into a reply to this post the very next time you notice about:blank. Try to refrain from fixing anything on your own as it sometimes make it more difficult to see all of the parts of the infection.

Please download CWShredder but don't run it yet.
    http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWSInstall.exe

Download this tool and run it now.
    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxAgentB.exe

Make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Thanks so much Buckeye_Sam. Looks like FxAgentB got rid of the trojan. I haven't been jacked in a week now! Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I just wanted to wait a few days to see if it could possibly, finally be true that this nasty trojan was gone. Below is a new log. I'd be happy to hear any other suggestions you might have. Also, I have an SP2 CD for XP that I'm going to install if you think this log looks good.

    Thanks...

    Your log looks clean!

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
    1. Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

      Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

      or

      Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

    2. Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
      1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      2. Click once on the Security tab
      3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
        1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
        2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
        3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
        4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
