Super glue for unlocking CPUs?

I've read the articles about using window defogger repair kits to unlock CPUs, but I don't really see why the super glue part is needed. Can't you just dab the paint across the gap and let it go at that?

    No

The reason being that you needed to insulate the paint from the copper connections within the gap.

If you get paint inside the gap, your chip is ****ed. I used whiteout back in the day. :D

Ah, I see. Well, I better do that part then. It'd be nice if those crucial spots weren't so SMALL! :wtf:

They're easy to isolate. Use some good good old fashion scotch tape and tape off the bridges so when you paint, only the hole gets the filler. I've attached a cheap-ass picture for an example. You'll probably go through a couple pieces of tape trying to get it flush to the edge of the hole, but if you look really carefully and do it under very bright light, you'll be fine.

You could also use a magnifying glass, but I'm near-sighted and ended up not needing one.

Personally I've always just used cheap thermal compound to fill the pits, it doesn't conduct and you just put a bit over the pit and rub it in with your finger, wipe the excess off with a cloth and then tape the bridges you want to short and have at it.

This method allows you to use a good ink/label remover (I use Get-Off) to remove the defogger stuff in the event you either want to sell the chip later or need to RMA it due to it dying from reasons other than your OC.
