After checking to day I found that Newegg has the DFI "LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D" listed as "in stock". They are currently listing the DFI "LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR" as "out of stock" but should be in by early next week.

Ziipzoomfly also lists the DFI "LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D" as "in stock" with the DFI "LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR" listed as "out of stock" but they did have them for a couple of hours the other day and I just barely missed one as I added it to my cart and completed the sale but got an email stating that they had run out.

Happy Hunting!!!

Well, I went and looked and newegg doesn't have them listed (the ultra-D) any longer...sounds like a hot ticket to me.

its because with a mod even an all thumbs person like me can do, you can in less then 5 minutes, turn that ultra d into a sli board. Anandtech has the howto on it... thats why its such a hot ticket... that and I guess it rocks as a board.

With the right memory people are running FSB at 400 (DDR800).
Now, to see how long they last running like that.

Zipzoomfly still has the Ultra D as "in stock".

    I'm still waiting for the SLI-DR. :(

can someone clear this up for me? i have heard a number of differing opinons.

does the nf4 (ultra or sli) support ati video cards. I want to get an x800xl, but i am not sure what mobo would be a good companion to it. I am leaning towards the DFI ultra-D b/c of it's overclocking ability, plus i have some pc4400 to throw in it.

I have also thought about the asus a8v-e dlx, viak8t890 for $150 (only 2 SATA150 ports though  )

    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=240419

or the abit ax8 for $145

    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=240148

but i would rather not go via, since the nvidia chipsets are more robust. if the price of pciex16 6800gt's drops to around $300/350 then i will just go the all nvidia way. but i am very interested in the x800xl....

Yes the NF4 supports any single PCIe 16x video card by any manufacturer.

NCIX is expecting 'lots' of ultra-D boards, my order has already processed, and my payment has gone through. They should be shipping them out any time after Feb.5. One of the NCIX staff members indicated that they are getting nowhere near enough SLI boards to satasfy even the pre-orders from DFI. If you want one quick, you might want to look at the Ultra-D's

I'm going to try holding tough for the SLI-DR as I really wanted the extras including the 8x SATA headers and RAID-5 capability as well as the Z Box w/ diagnostic LED's. But if the pressur gets to be too much I will have to cave in.

I also noticed that since they are out of stock @ NE the price of the Ultra D went up $10.00US and the price @ ZZF went up $3.00US in the past 6 hrs. Nothing like the laws of supply and demand!

Meanwhile peolpe over @ XS are going ape with these things. :bawling:

Video card is my problem right now too as I only can get a cheapo at the moment. I may just have to sell my current main rig to do it the way I should.

Anyone see the new update to the Anandtech review of the DFI nF4 boards?
UPDATE 2/05/2005: nVidia has acted to prevent, or at least make it more difficult, to mod the Ultra board to SLI. First, DFI has advised us, and posted on their website, that they will NOT sell the SLI bridge to buyers of the Ultra board. Second, nVidia has advised us that future shipments of the Ultra chipset have been modified so that the mod to SLI will no longer be possible. An additional side effect of this second action is that the "Dual Video" mode, which performs at about 90% of SLI performance levels, will only work with nVidia SLI drivers 66.75 or earlier. If you do a quick check of web driver postings you will see it is now very difficult to find 66.75 drivers. With a chipset modded to SLI the "Dual Video" mode worked through 70.xx versions of the nVidia driver. nVidia also made it clear they will continue to make driver changes to prevent functioning of any "non-standard" (8X/8X) operation of their SLI driver. This also throws into question whether the VIA "dual graphics" mode on the 894 Pro chipset will ever work with nVidia graphics cards. If you are interested in the current UT Ultra-D we suggest you buy one now if you can find it. Future versions of the UT Ultra-D will not have the same capabilities as a result of these actions.

Looks like we might be stuck getting the SLI-DR if we do want SLI. Sucks but I dont think I will mind, esp with some of the goodies that come with it, IE 4 more SATA ports.

I knew I wanted to wait for more than just the extra goodies!

I kept wondering where people were going to get the bridge if they did the mod anyway.

Ugh, in order for me to upgrade I'd have to buy not only that motherboard, but also a new video card, and of course a new Processor as I have only the Socket 764.

sorry for the dumb question and I apologise in advance but whats the big differance in the two dfi boards. the ultra and sli or whatever? One is running almost 50 percent more at newegg right now.

I was gonna order the 149$ version tomorrow as I don't even want to run pci-e video in mine is that OK?

I know that much. They both have 2 pci-e x16 slots.

Whats the differance in the two boards was the question. Why is one 50 percent more expensive?

The main difference is the "SLI" or Scaleable Link Interface that allows you to run 2 video cards together for inproved performance in games and such.

It also has 4 more SATA ports through the addition of a Silicon Image 3114 controller in addition to the 4 already provided through the chipset (all SATA and PATA ports are able to be used together in RAID). There are also some other bells and whistles that are mostly play stuff.

Yes, you could just use a regular PCI vid card in one of the PCI slots.

And actually I am scarfing for a cheap pci-e card for the video. I'm surprised how cheap you can get a low end pci-e video actually.

I have no need then for sli for sure especially for the huge extra price. I bought the dfi board this morning really just to run a new raid controller. And it looks like for me the one I got for 140 bucks and not 225 bucks was the right choice anyway. I have no need for multiple video cards or even a single expensive video card.

I got a $700 raid controller for $200 basicaly and it was killing me to have it just laying on my desk.

Tex, What drives are you hanging off of the controller?
    I want to see this.

Dude I have like 15 u320 scsi drives about 8 or 10 10k drives and 5 or 6, 15k maxtors. I don't buy slow drives. The controller is supposed to be faster then the pci-x one I have with half a GB of cache that was scoring 300,000 on atto with a single drive due to the cpu/cache. The pci-x version is supposed to use pc1600 ddr. I had 512mb of pc3200 in it.

The pci-e version is setup to require pc2700 ddr due to the faster cpu on board. I'll throw in the pc3200 512mb for first round of testing.
