SP2 Killed My PC

edited February 2005 in Hardware
Need Help!! Keep in mind I consider myself a novice. A few days ago I uninstalled SP2. By accident my wife reinstalled and now I cant reboot, not even a hard reboot. Heres the skinny:

1. When I try to reboot I cant get in to safe mode, or anything else for that matter.

2. The XP screen comes on and before it will get to my desktop my PC shuts down and reboots itself, over and over and over again.

Can anyone help

    Your wife REINSTALLED XP?

Right. Except it knows if it is installed and doesnt reinstall.

Pull out your XP cd and do a re-install.

    You will survive.

Many times depending on previos updates I have had to slipstream the sp2 update onto a XP install and doa repair to get it to install and function correctly do to the many changes and other software installed on the computer.

Virus's and spyware seem to especially jack with SP2.

Try hitting f8 and restoring the PC to a previous point in time.

Then post back and lets see if we can help or so as I suggested and do a reapir install and use a slip streamed xp/sp2

I've tried hitting F8 and still nothing. I'm only able to hit F12.

As a side note I followed the instructions posted here and about a month ago I got rid of HSA. I was unsuccessful at removing/deleting but I was able to quarantine.

Then it has nothing to do with SP2.

Hitting f8 in a timely manner and seeing the menu to go to a previous version or safe mode etc.. has nothing in the world to do with SP2. It changes nothing in the first level of the boot. It's operator error most likely. Your not hitting f8 correctly.

Reboot and use your cd to do a recovery install.

Installing a service pack would not do this to a machine. You have other, bigger, problems.
