DrWatson PostMortem Debugger....

edited March 2005 in Hardware
I had never even heard of this program in the 5 something years I've owned my Vaio. I'm not going to lie, I've done something wrong...horribly horribly wrong...I can't get system restore to do anything good and now whenever I try to open the Control Panel from the Start->Control Panel DrWatson's Postmortem Debugger says its crashed and it won't end until I end the program. A slew of other programs won't work which might be a result of HSA but I won't go into that here for this is not the place. I would have no problem resetting my hard drive but certain errors wont let me access parts of my computer.

I have had this same thing pop up. I cannot open anything on my computer save for IE and anything that starts up with my computer. Every time that i try to open anything from My Computer to even the control panel, i get the Dr watson error. I am currently working on getting a logfile for someone to look at, but at the time being i must get to sleep. if anyone can offer help before i get a logfile posted, i would be very thankful.

Dr. Watson used to be a standalone debugger back in the Win 3.X days. I think they integrated it into the kernel in Win95+ (somewhere in there) and now it's so far buried into XP that if you see it, something is borked pretty good. If you see it repeatedly, it might be time for a repair install.

yeah, thats what I was afraid of. Sigh. That means I will have to try and access what little I can and back it up. Ugh. That will be tiresome. Well thanks.

If you do a repair install (as long as this is XP), you don't need to backup your data, since it pretty much restores your prior configuration, just overwrites the system files.
