VMAST - Any hear of this Virus/App?

edited February 2005 in Science & Tech
My Mom swears someone is taking over her PC and she saw a program called VMAST in the systray. She killed it and said it gave her some strange message like "thanks for deleting me" and slowly faded away. Before that she was getting low memory errors and said there was a strange name in her JUNO dail-up window, like someone had hijacked her PC and was remotely logging on somehow. Doesn't make sense unless it was some automatic dialer, as you'd have to be connected to control the PC and she only has dial-up.

I believe I have virtual desktop and all that kind of stuff disabled on her PC, but I live too far away to go check it out. I told her to run a Hijackthis log and email it to me. She's hopeless! She thought I could catch her virus by emailing me the Hijackthis log!

I googled VMAST, but didn't come up with anything suspicious

It does sound suspicous. It is possible that someone has re-named an existing trojan or a trojan is randomly named. What does the icon she saw look like, can she describe it?

HJT log is the best bet to figure it out, if she does not want to e-mail it to you, get her to post it directly here herself and post in this thread to let us know.
