Valve Releases Details On Future Steam Downloads

edited February 2005 in Science & Tech
Valve has announced information on its future releases coming via Steam, the company's high-speed download client. The first to be released "over the next month or so" is an update to Half-Life 2: Deathmatch that will feature new weapons, including the Slam, Stunstick, and Crowbar.
A new map for Half-Life 2 will also be released soon. Titled "The Lost Coast", it's a snippet of the Highway 17 chapter of the single-player game, and shows off the new high dynamic range lighting system. The map will only be released to those with computers that meet Valve's high end hardware standards, which will be published soon.

In addition to the de_compound map for Counter-Strike: Source, Valve will also be releasing an update for CS which will fix minor bugs that effected the game.

'high dynamic range lighting system'... sounds like they're going with a doom3 style lighting system now

Yes those are the ATI levels.

There are definatly 4 new maps for HL2DM with a possibility of 7 more coming out depending on how the mapping competition works.

The contest winners will be unveiled on the 28th so it's a good time to expect the maps also at around that time(not the ati maps)

Will these maps greatly affect the performance of a mid-range system? (R9700 Pro, P4 2.8C)

You can't blame them for being wary about release dates ;D

They said they are internal beta testing it at the moment, no mention if there is going to be a external beta for silver purcahsers.

Thegr81 There has been no word on if you can turn off the efffects to just "play" this new section, but if you have to have the eye candy on, your prospects look "grim"

I just wanna see what valve is gonna put out at E3 this year, hopefully we might get some word on tf2 and any expansions that might occur.

And this 1 is for Thrax, in Germany valve now have to "de-couple" steam from HL2 for people to play offline.
