Best memory stick arrangement?

I was wondering what would be the best for performance memory stick arrangement. I have several computers and they all have 2,3, or 4 memory stick slots.

1 is SDRAM (I have PC133 sticks for it) and 2 are DDR (I have PC3200 memory sticks for them)

If you wanted to install something like 1 GB of memory would it be better to put it all in one slot, or 2, or use all 4 if the board has 4?

If the board has 3 slots, would 256/256/512 be better or worse than 256/256/256?

How about for a pure folding computer?

Right now I've got an Abit NF-7 system, an Abit BP-6, and I'd like to get an Asus or Tyan dual 2 Ghz+ Socket A system built, but that costs more money.

I dont think that matters unless your overclocking, if you are overclocking then I think it matters a bit.... but not much.

AFAIK, if you have mixed memory modules, whatever allows the system to boot is OK. Total memory will just be accumulative and speed tied down to the slowest stick.

If you have dual memory capability, however, and you have two identical sticks, it does matter. Consult the motherboard manual.

If I had the RAM, I'd use whatever I had that would give me the most memory.

If I were purchasing RAM, I'd skip the 256/256/512 combo and just have a 512/512 combo. I wouldn't buy 256MB sticks so the 256/256/256 would only be used if I already possessed the memory.
