GA-7DPXDW-P AMD Socket A Duel Processor
Hello to all in this interesting forum,
First off.. I'm new to tweaking a PC but love to learn the how's and why's.
I built my computer with a friend about 2 years ago.
Here's the info rundown:
AMD Athlon(tm) MP 2200+ 1.8 GHz (2 CPUs)
Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG, 09/27/02
Memory: 1024 MB (19% Utilized)
WD Hard Drive: 128.00 GB, 186.31 GB
800 x 600 in 64K Colors, NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X Ver. 6.14
Windows 5.0 (Build 2195) or Windows 2000 Professional
I don't understand how to overclock but would love to learn.
Right now I'm frustrated because the motherboard is not reading my drives the way I want it to. And please dont ask me why I want to do all this.
I have 2 drives in RAID 1 configuration using IDE Slots 1 & 2.
Slot 3 is supposed to have master/slave using 2 HD's.
Slot 4 is supposed to have master/slave using 2 HD's.
I also installed a PCI IDE controller card to hookup my DVD drive and my CD burner.
Up until 2 weeks ago I was only using 1 HD, the DVD & CD burner.
I was not using my RAID drives. I wanted to get it all setup the way I originally intended so I setup all the cables. I'm now back to my 1 HD and two CD drives.
The problem is that my main HD will not boot when I try to slave any other HD to the same cable or to the next IDE slot either 2 or 3.
I used the jumper on the slave HD and the jumper on the Master HD as well. Funny thing is when I switch around the cables to different IDE slots the BIOS recognizes my HD in different ways like Master/Slave settings.
Before I keep rambling would anyone be willing to give me advice or ask me questions that I can be more specific with the problem?
Thanks to anyone who takes of their time to try in helping me

are you sure that the jumpers on the drives are set properly?
As far as the jumpers I used only the Master/Slave settings shown on the top of the Western Digital HD. The only one I didnt try was Cable Select because I wasn't sure what that setting was or if it was just no jumper at all.
I thought that for Cable Select the farthest away was Master only because the tag on the cable said Primary and the closest said Secondary. I will have to retry using this method. Thanks
No thats backwards. Master is always on the end.
And the WD's sometimes seem to have screwy diagrams describing the jumpers. Make sure your reading the key correctly. I have installed a few thousand hard drives and I have had to go WTF a couple times on the WD's in the last couple years. Seems like they are printed upside down how I expect it to be read or something.

1st, my BIOS is set for it to boot from the RAID IDE slots because according to the manual if I choose SCSI then that is refering to the PCI controller card.
2ndly, I have my RAID IDE slots functioning as ATA.
So why is it that the computer wont boot at all when I slave a HD to the same cable for the 1st RAID IDE slot, OR, slave it to the 2nd RAID IDE slot??
It doesnt matter if I use the master/slave jumper settings or go Cable select. If I attach a 2nd HD it's like it has a heart attack. I should mention that the 2nd HD has an installed OS and isn't fresh.. but that shouldn't matter. The master OS should recognize it as a 2nd disk drive.
What am I not understanding?? Please help.. thanks.
