Not exactly an emergency, but it belongs here =)

Well, we've had a laptop for a few years, a Dell Inspiron 3500 to be exact, just lying around because of one problem. Whenever someone attempts to turn it on, you can hear the fan, the power on/off light, and the battery full lights turn on. Then after that, the fan stops, the lights stay on, yet nothing happens. I don't remember anything that happened to the laptop which would make it do this.

The reason I say it's not exactly an emergency is because I dont really need it, but it'd help me out if it worked.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Is it fully charged? Kinda sounds like its dead.

Do you have a CRT or some other monitor that you can hook up to a VGA port to see if it might be the screen that went bad?

Yeah, I forgot to mention that it's fully charged. I dont think it's the monitor though, because when it was working, the same thing would happen, except the hard drive would start up after the fan went silent and the monitor would slowly fade in.

Could be the power board, i know the on the 8200's they like to die alot. Also the "blub" in the screen might have died.

I have a battery for my machine that is fully charged, and will only last 30 sec. It has an internal fault.
plug it into AC, a keyboard, monitor and fire it up.
Oh, first remove the battery and open all of hte little access doors that you can and make sure that stuff is seated.
    Put a boot floppy in.

Yeah, still nothing.. It's fine though, no need to get too deep into this thread. It's not a big worry nor is it anything essential
