An even stronger HSA infection?
Hi,
I have a HSA infection on my PC and can't get rid of it. I have used Adaware and your manual twice, but it's still there. It also seems to have a few more 'features' than covered in the manual, like storing 24.tmp.exe in my temp directory.
Also the entry in HKLM\...\Services uses a random name of unreadable characters to hide the Worksation Netlogon Service, instead of some readable random characters.
My HJT log is following. In my cleaning attempts I removed the R1 and R0 entries (except casema which is my provider and blank).
For O2 I removed ntbf.dll (though not sure if that one was needed).
For O4 I removed mfcya32.exe, the 24.tmp.exe's, ntyk32.exe and atlix.exe I did not remove epl2.exe, any opinions on this one?
The result is: not enough. Already when booting vback to normal mode I get a message stating "Windows cannot find atlix.exe", the one I just removed in safe mode.
Can anyone help me and suggest which steps I may be missing?

After I wrote my first post I did some more checking and noticed that the processes seemed to have gone, though the R1 entries had reappeared. Possibly the last remainders of the safe mode?
So I ran HJT once more to remove the remaining entries and (knock on wood) it appears that my infection has gone. Man, this costed me 6 hours to get rid of the *** thing.
I'll leave my post here as the two new features may be of interest to other readers.
What OS are you running? Here’s what I found:
Boot your computer in “regular” Safe Mode – NO NETWORKING! Run your HJT again, and remove everything below.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe - The W32.Miroot.Worm uses this file, I see you use Symantec, go to their website and run the tool to check for this worm.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\epl2.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [epl2] C:\WINDOWS\system32\epl2.exe – Trouble! Delete these!
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntyk32.exe – CoolWebSearch File
– Kill it! Matter of a fact, go out to majorgeeks.com and download the latest CW Shredder program - LINK
Delete them all, you can always start over, we need to get you clean 1st!
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://klant.casema.nl/

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\vhykv.dll/sp.html#18463
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3FEC49FA-6456-C082-F75C-0AEC74C8C9AE} - C:\WINDOWS\ntbf.dll – Always delete these “no name’” BHO’s
You can always delete all your BHOs, I usually do, and they’ll come back on their own (sometimes unfortunately)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mfcya32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcya32.exe – This is suspect, not sure though, might be part of Search Assistant
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background - Known backdoor into your system, if you don’t use messenger regularly, remove it
O4 - Startup: Internet Explorer.lnk = C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE - This is not part of Explorer, it’s a java-base Trojan, you may have to go to Task Manager and kill the process 1st
O4 - Global Startup: BTTray.lnk = ? Question marks are always bad, kill it!
I’d remove all this Google toolbar junk, you can always install it again after we get you clean.

This isn’t spyware, but if the file is missing, it isn’t doing anything anyway, you should be able to kill it.
