CD drives messed up

I was on my computer when I accidentally hit the on/off button on my surge-protector. So, my comp shut off. When I turned it back on it said something like I needed to log on profile one or something weird like that. I waited a bit and it got to my regular screen. Everything went well for a few days until I tried to watch a DVD. I put the disc into the driver but it would not show up. So, I went to "My Computer" to search the driver and load it manually. However, when I go into "My Computer" the only "Device with Removable Storage" thing that comes up is my 3 1/2 floppy (A:).

I went to the "add hardware" thing under the control panel to see what the problem was and under my two drivers:
_NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A
SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SM-348B
The same error message showed up: " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

After that I looked under the Help and Support Center and searched for the code and what the problem was, it told me to try to uninstall then reinstall the device. I did that and it didn't work.

Any Ideas? or do I just need to buy new cd drives.

Remove the drive, uninstall it from device manager and reinstall it? Maybe install it on a different ide bus (different cable).

What version of Windows is this??? Did you maybe bump the IDE drive cable inside the computer??? If this is XP, did you try a repair install???

I removed the drive, when i turned on the computer again it said "overclocking failed" ?? what is that... also, it may help; my computer is custom or what ever, so it has parts from alot of different companies. I bought it from ebay. *Dont know if that help, but o well*
