win 2k doesn't love me any more?

edited February 2005 in Hardware
my windows 2000 pro is very slow and I can't view the files in C:\program files folder, I also can't run the add and remove programs window I just a get a blank page when I click on the icon? I have done a virus scan and run spybot and ad-aware no problems found? this all started when my daughter tried to re-install her harrypotter game from EA? i was going to just do a re-install of w2k but my cd is damaged and some of the files can't load...

Does any one know a cure for this problem(s)?

Have you checked your system for spyware recently?

    Tex

We might verify he has updated the spybot and adaware to the latest defs. I assume so but that has got me into trouble a couple times working on a clients box where they say they don't know what it can be ... they have anti-virus software etc... then you look and it has not had new virus defs updated since may of 2000 or some crap.

Try booting into safe mode and updating and rerunning all of the AV/spyware stuff.

My real guess is that a system file has gotten hashed. You may want to try a repair install. It may just be a single file or so.

Is there a way to do a repair install without the CD? It's been damaged. I suspect what I need to repair is IE but it won't let me? I have done the booting ins safe mode and reran all the AV/Spyware stuff which is all new and updated. Any thoughts?
