Win2k - Drag and Drop no longer functions
I recently had the bestfriends AIM trojan. Shortly thereafter (but after cleaning most of it), I started to notice that I could not drag and drop objects on the desktop or in explorer. I have since completely cleaned my computer of the trojan (and all other malware), using SpyBot, AdAware, NAV, Panda, housecall, HijackThis, etc. I am in full confidence that my computer is no longer harboring any malware. However, either
1.) some malware changed settings disabling d&d
2.) some fix changed settings disabling d&d
3.) some random action disabled d&d
I have WindowUpdated since this started, but it did not fix the problem. My Internet Settings for the various zones are back to default (bestfriends likes to mess with this). I have checked to be sure my dcomcnfg permissions are correct. I have checked to be sure my Folder Options didn't contain anything weird.
None of this has helped.
I have searched Microsoft's solution database. All that I could find that seemed relevant to my problem was the dcomcnfg check. If any of you have any ideas whatsoever, I would be very grateful.
Note: When I try to drag an icon, it stays in place, and the cursor becomes a circle w/ slash through it. If, however, I drag it over a window whose program contains its own drag and drop handler, like SecureFTP, everything works normally (and the correct action is done upon a drop).
edit: Sorry, I should have posted this in the Windows forum. I can't delete this, otherwise I would move it there.
