Can't open Microsoft word...please help

When i try to open it displays the microsoft can't open screen and says there is something wrong with winword.exe, if i do a search for winword.exe it dosen't find anything i think i may have deleted the file when using mcfee shredder, i have tried the renamng normal.dot theory but no luck, also i tried an online update of my virus scan and it fell over and wants me to reinstall the antivirus, could this be anything to do with it as it seemed to happen at rougly the same time. i have reinstalled office twice and it won't fix it, and if i do a system restore to when i could get into word it still displays the error.
Please help i've got some important docs i need to access in word.

    hmmmm have you tried uninstalling your anti virus to see if it works then? or have you tried disabling it and trying to run word. It could be blocking the program from running.... you could also try reparing your office installation (control panel > add remove programs >> select office from the list >> select the change button >> then the repair option) however you say you have reinstalled so this might not help.
